Why The People’s Paper Exists

In every community, there are stories that shape who we are — stories of resilience, progress, struggle, joy, and everyday people doing extraordinary things. Too often, those stories go untold or unheard.
The People’s Paper was created to change that.
This publication exists to serve the people — especially voices that have historically been overlooked, underrepresented, or ignored. Our mission is simple: to highlight community truth, celebrate good news, and report with integrity, care, and accountability.
Here in Mississippi, and particularly in our rural communities, the narrative is often incomplete. We hear about challenges, but not enough about solutions. We see statistics, but not the faces, families, educators, elders, and young people behind them. The People’s Paper exists to fill that gap.
This is not just a news site — it is a community platform. A place for local news, community voices, education and literacy stories, civic awareness, and hope-centered reporting. We believe good news matters. We believe transparency matters. And we believe the people deserve to see themselves reflected accurately and respectfully.
Our focus will include:
- Local news that impacts daily life
- Community voices and lived experiences
- Education and literacy initiatives
- Opinion and thoughtful dialogue
- Stories of progress, service, and resilience
We are committed to responsible storytelling — stories told with the community, not about it.
The People’s Paper MS is a community-driven digital publication and literacy initiative of Katina’s Klassroom.
The platform combines journalism, storytelling, and education to provide accessible, culturally relevant content for underserved communities.
Through volunteer contributors and community participation, the initiative promotes reading, writing, and critical thinking while amplifying local voices.
The People’s Paper MS also serves as an information resource, sharing news, educational content, and community updates that support informed and engaged communities.
