Where are the Men?

By Rev. Clint Perkins

As men, we need to remember we are created in the likeness of God. Genesis 1:26 (KJV) says, “And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness…”

We also need other men to help us become better men. Accountability matters. Proverbs 27:17 reminds us, “As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.”

And we must confront our weaknesses head on instead of running from them. The Apostle Paul reminds us in 2 Corinthians 12:8-12 that the power of Christ works best in us when we are at our weakest.

Building on these truths, there is something else we cannot ignore. As men, we need to be the biggest cheerleaders for our families.

Motivation, encouragement and affirmation should come naturally in our daily conversations. Our wives need it. Our children need it. And it needs to come from us.

Children need to see a husband praising and encouraging his wife. A wife needs to see her husband uplifting and motivating their children. Men, we have to bring positive energy into our homes. Life gets hard, but we cannot keep making excuses.

We are called to lead.

The best example of leadership is found in Joshua 24:15: “But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”

Starting right now, I challenge every man, myself included, to rededicate our lives to following Christ in a deeper and more committed way.

We must set the pace, be the example and let our families see us serve God. As we lead, we can encourage them as they follow.

Until next week, be intentional about being the motivator, encourager and head cheerleader your family needs.
