Walking In The Word

By Pastor Clint Perkins

God’s Little Children

As summer approaches and schools let out for summer break, most children will have more free time than they know what to do with. That free time will be occupied with something, good or bad. Let’s make sure it’s good.

Children will be children. That’s what they are supposed to do. They will play, have fun, hang out with friends, and some will even get in trouble. Many churches will host Vacation Bible School, camps, and various activities. Taking advantage of these opportunities is a great way to introduce some children to Christ and strengthen the faith of others already walking with Him.

Psalm 127:3 says children are a gift from the Lord. If God gives us something, we need to treasure it.

Children can also teach us a lot. Jesus tells us in Matthew 18:3, “Unless you turn from your sins and become like little children, you will never get into the Kingdom of Heaven.” Just as a child depends on an adult, we are to depend on Christ. Children can be fighting with each other one minute and playing together the next, quickly forgetting what happened.

As summer gets closer, let’s be intentional about filling our children’s free time with positive things. Do not just take them to church and VBS. Talk to them and listen to what they have to say. Go to McDonald’s, sit down together, and have a conversation. You may be surprised not only by how happy they will be, but also by what you can learn from them.
