Understanding Credit Score Ranges

By: Brenton Rankin | “Cheating Debt”

Hi. I’m Brenton, and I’m here to help you cheat debt.

If you’ve ever checked your credit score and wondered what those numbers really mean, you’re not alone.

Your credit score isn’t just a random figure.  It’s a snapshot of how reliably you manage money. Lenders use it to decide how much they trust you with credit, loans, or even renting an apartment.

Let’s break down the basics:

• 300–579: Poor. This range signals major credit challenges. You may face high interest rates or loan denials, but with consistency and time, recovery is possible.

• 580–669: Fair. You’re on the right track but still paying more than ideal for borrowing. Think of this range as “under construction.”

• 670–739: Good. You’re managing credit responsibly. You’ll qualify for most loans with reasonable terms.

• 740–799: Very Good. You’re seen as a low-risk borrower. Lenders like you.

• 800–850: Excellent. This top tier opens doors to the best offers and lowest rates.

Keep in mind, your score moves based on five main factors: payment history, credit utilization (how much of your credit limit you use), length of credit history, types of accounts, and new credit inquiries.

Improving your score takes patience, but small steps like paying bills on time and keeping balances low make a big difference over time.

Remember: your credit score doesn’t define your worth, but it does define your opportunities.

Learn the system, play it wisely, and you’ll be on your way to ‘cheating debt’ the smart way.
