“I don’t need to go to church to go to heaven.” This is a statement that is commonly used by people as an excuse not to attend church, and it is absolutely true. Church attendance is not a requirement to go to heaven, as referenced in Romans 10:9. However, for the church to function as it should, believers must attend.
In the first New Testament church, believers devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to prayer, as noted in Acts 2:42. They met together in one place, according to Acts 2:44, worshiped together, and shared meals with great joy and generosity, as described in Acts 2:46. Also, Hebrews 10:25 tells us not to forsake the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but to encourage one another, and all the more as you see the Day approaching. In other words, we should go to church. Gathering with other believers allows for mutual accountability and encouragement. Fellowship ensures that you do not have to face life’s struggles alone.
Until next week, be intentional about attending church.
