SIMPSON COUNTY, Miss. — After weeks of heat that has seemed determined to stick around, Wednesday could finally give Simpson County a taste of something different.
The weather pattern is expected to begin shifting as the persistent ridge responsible for the recent heat weakens.
A front and changing upper-level winds could help push somewhat cooler and drier air southward.
That doesn’t mean we’re pulling out the sweaters.
Far from it.
Temperatures will still be warm, with afternoon readings likely remaining in the upper 80s and 90s across portions of Mississippi.
But even a modest drop from the recent near-100-degree readings will be noticeable.
And temperatures aren’t the only thing to watch.
The arrival of drier air should eventually begin lowering dewpoints, which can make a bigger difference in how the weather actually feels.
After a stretch of oppressive heat and humidity, even a small improvement can feel like a big one.
Wednesday could be the day Simpson County starts noticing that the atmosphere is finally changing.
And if the forecast holds, the biggest difference may come later in the week.
Williams Weather Window will keep watching.
