In a room that has hosted pep rallies, graduations, and many important student moments, the Magee High School auditorium will soon welcome another milestone centered on hard work, discipline, and promise.
On April 23 at 6 p.m., Simpson County seniors who challenged themselves academically and gave back to their communities will take the stage for the annual Mississippi Scholars and Tech Master Scholars Recognition Reception. For many, it will be more than a ceremony. It will mark years of late nights, early mornings, and a commitment to stay focused when it was not easy.
Students from Magee High School, Mendenhall High School, Simpson Academy, and the Simpson County Technical Center earned this recognition by meeting the program’s higher standards, a challenge designed to prepare them for life beyond high school rather than just graduation day.
This year’s keynote speaker is Drummonds McAlpin, president and chief executive officer of Southern Pine Electric Cooperative. His career, built over more than 15 years with the cooperative, reflects the same persistence these students have demonstrated. Organizers say his message will inspire students as they stand on the edge of their next chapter.
The heart of the night, though, will belong to the students themselves. The celebration honors young people who are preparing to move their communities forward with knowledge, vision, and a willingness to grow.
