Rainy Week Health Tips: Staying Safe, Dry, and Healthy

By The People’s Paper MS Staff

Rain is in the forecast this week across Simpson County, and while it may bring cooler temperatures and a break from the heat, it also brings a few health risks people should keep in mind.

First, watch your footing. Wet roads, sidewalks, and parking lots can get slick fast. Take your time getting in and out of vehicles, especially during morning and evening commutes.

Second, stay dry when you can. Getting caught in the rain is not just uncomfortable, it can lower body temperature and make it easier to catch a cold, especially for children and older adults.

Third, pay attention to standing water. After heavy rain, puddles can collect bacteria and attract mosquitoes. If you are outside, try to avoid walking or playing in areas where water has pooled.

Fourth, keep your immune system steady. Drink water, eat balanced meals, and get enough rest. Rainy weather often changes routines, and that is when people tend to get run down.

Finally, drive with care. Wet roads reduce visibility and stopping distance. Slow down, turn on headlights, and avoid sudden braking when possible.

Rainy days can be peaceful, but they still require a little extra attention to stay safe and well.
