VICKSBURG, Miss. — The spotlight shines on Vicksburg this week as the annual Miss Mississippi pageant begins preliminary competitions.

Dozens of contestants from across the state arrived at the Vicksburg Convention Center this weekend. They face intense rounds of interviews, talent showcases, and evening gown modeling. The preliminary scores determine the top finalists for the final crown selection on Saturday night.

The event marks the end of an incredible journey for the outgoing Miss Mississippi, Anna Leah Jolly. Jolly spent her first 12 years in a Ukrainian orphanage before a Mississippi family adopted her. She used her platform this past year to advocate for adoption awareness and youth arts programs.

Ticket sales benefit the Miss Mississippi Corporation scholarship fund. The organization awards thousands of dollars in college tuition assistance to young women each year.
