There’s something special about celebrating young people who are putting in the work, and this month, all eyes are on Mendenhall Junior High School student Ava Fletcher.

The Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. Rho Iota Zeta Chapter has named Ava its March Student of the Month, a recognition made possible through its Zeta Archonette Club, a high school youth auxiliary focused on leadership and service.

Those who know Ava say she truly represents what it means to be a Mendenhall Tiger. She is curious, driven, and fully committed to her education. Teachers describe her as focused and goal oriented, someone who does not just aim for success but consistently puts in the effort to achieve it.

Students selected for this honor are recommended by their school principals, making the recognition even more meaningful. The Archonettes present each student with a $25 gift card.

Sandrena Durr, a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., said celebrating students like Ava is about more than just recognition. It is about encouragement.

“Taking time to recognize a Student of the Month allows us to celebrate excellence, encourage positive behavior, and uplift students in a meaningful way,” Durr said. “When we highlight students who are working hard, showing leadership, and making good choices, we reinforce the values of scholarship and service.”

Ava’s positive attitude and dedication to growth continue to inspire those around her, making her a standout role model among her peers.

At The People’s Paper, we believe stories like Ava’s matter. When we celebrate our students, we strengthen our community and remind the next generation that their hard work does not go unseen.
