Make Reading an Adventure

By Katina’s Klassroom Board Members

Children love adventures.

The good news is that reading can become one.

Parents can create simple reading challenges that make books exciting.

A child might earn a sticker for every book completed. Families can create reading bingo cards or set goals for reading a certain number of pages each week.

Some communities host reading contests and summer reading programs that offer prizes and recognition.

The reward does not need to be expensive.

Extra playtime, a special outing or choosing the next family movie can motivate young readers.

The real reward, however, comes from helping children discover new worlds through books.

When reading feels like an adventure instead of an assignment, children often become eager participants.

A little creativity can turn reading into something children look forward to each day.
