There is something different happening on the campus of Tuskegee.
It is not loud … at least not yet.
But if you ask Matthew Tarpley, the first Head Men’s Soccer Coach in the history of Tuskegee University Athletics, the momentum is already building.
“I would encourage everyone to ride the wave this year during the World Cup,” Tarpley said. “It’s the most diverse and fastest-growing sport in the United States, and we know the game of soccer is going to spark a lot of interest for young people looking to play at the college level—especially this summer when the World Cup matches start here in the United States.”
For Tarpley, the timing could not be better. As global eyes shift toward the world’s most popular sport, Tuskegee is quietly building from the ground up.
And building smart.
Starting Strong — Without Breaking the Budget
Launching a new college program often comes with daunting costs. Soccer, however, offers flexibility.
“It doesn’t cost too much to get started,” Tarpley explained. “We are able to share facilities with football on campus while our athletic director implements plans to build a soccer-specific facility.”

That practical approach combined with a partnership with Nike to outfit players with training tops, hoodies, cleats, travel gear, and game uniforms positions the Golden Tigers for a strong debut season.
But, gear alone will not define this program.
