For young people trying to figure out their next step, one opportunity could change everything.

Job Corps is reaching out across Mississippi with a simple message. If you are between 16 and 24, there is a free path to education, job training and a stable future.
Adrainuna Dennis, an admissions counselor with Job Corps, said the program is working hard to connect with youth and young adults who need a fresh start or a second chance.
“This program reaches individuals 16 to 24,” Dennis said. “Job Corps is a trade facility located in Crystal Springs, Gulfport and Batesville. Our program is residential and completely free.”
That word free matters. For many families, cost can be the biggest barrier to education and training. Job Corps removes that barrier and replaces it with opportunity.
Participants can train in high demand fields like manufacturing, construction, healthcare, business and homeland security. Students who have not finished high school can earn a diploma or equivalency through Penn Foster High School at no cost.
Once accepted, students move on campus and begin their training. After completing their chosen trade, they participate in graduation and work toward career placement. Options include entering the workforce, enlisting in the military, attending college or pursuing advanced training.
And the support does not stop there.
Students receive free housing and meals while enrolled. They can also receive a biweekly allowance and may earn up to 1200 dollars after completing the program. For many, that financial support helps them stay focused and committed.
Job Corps also helps students earn a driver’s license if needed, which can be a major step toward independence and employment.
When training is complete, the program continues to support graduates with job placement, apprenticeships, advanced training and even college opportunities.
“We want to make sure students do not just finish,” Dennis said. “We want them to succeed long term.”
The program is open to U.S. citizens or legal residents between the ages of 16 and 24 who show a need for education, job training or employment support. Priority is given to homeless individuals and those with military connections.
For communities across Mississippi, programs like Job Corps can make a lasting difference. They offer structure, skills and a clear path forward for young people who may feel stuck or unsure.
If you know someone who could benefit, now is the time to share this opportunity.
