Boswell Regional Center has become a steady presence for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Simpson County and surrounding communities. For many families, it is more than a service provider. It is a place where people find support, structure, and opportunities to grow.

Located off Highway 49 in Magee, about 40 miles south of Jackson, the center serves as a hub for additional sites in Mendenhall, Brookhaven, Wesson, Hazlehurst, Taylorsville, and Bay Springs. Since opening in July 1976 on the grounds of the former Mississippi State Tuberculosis Sanatorium, Boswell has expanded from serving just 35 individuals to reaching people across a wide region.

For families navigating life with a loved one who has developmental disabilities, finding consistent and reliable support can be challenging. Daily needs often go beyond basic care and include social connection, life skills, and a sense of independence. Centers like Boswell help meet those needs by offering structured programs and guidance that fit into everyday life.

Today, Boswell focuses on helping individuals build practical skills and maintain as much independence as possible. Staff work alongside families, caregivers, and community partners to support personal goals, whether that means learning new routines, preparing for a job, or becoming more active in the community.

Programs at Boswell cover a wide range of services. Individuals can access autism support, behavioral services, and crisis intervention when needed. Day programs provide structured activities that encourage social interaction and skill building. Employment services help individuals prepare for the workforce and connect with job opportunities.

The center also offers residential support, including services for seniors and specialized programs designed to meet specific needs. Younger individuals can receive targeted care through the Mississippi Adolescent Center, which focuses on guidance during important developmental stages.

Another key part of Boswell’s work involves helping individuals stay connected to their communities. Through community based IDD services, participants receive support while continuing to live, work, and engage in familiar surroundings. This approach helps preserve independence while strengthening community ties.

For many in Simpson County, Boswell Regional Center remains a dependable resource. It is a place where individuals with developmental disabilities can build confidence, develop skills, and take part in daily life in meaningful ways.
