Explosions. Fire. Smoke.
Residents reported hearing loud explosions before a fire erupted at a building located at 713 Simpson Hwy. 49 S., according to Fire Chief David Craft. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Buck said no injuries were reported, and firefighters were able to contain the blaze to the area where it originated.
Residents in the area told firefighters they heard multiple loud explosions coming from the building before flames broke out. According to Craft, one explosion was so powerful that it launched a piece of metal roofing approximately 30 feet into the air. The metal landed on a main power line.
“At this time, we do not know the cause of the fire,” Craft said. “There were no injuries, and the fire was contained to the area of origin. It will most likely smolder for several days.”
Fire crews continue to monitor the site as the structure cools.
The building, officials confirmed, previously operated as a furniture store.
