4 Simple Hair Care Tips for Better Growth and Shine

By Tony Cozart | The Godfather of Hair Care

I’ve been in the hair care game (a licensed cosmetologist) since 1987, and one thing I know for sure is this: healthy hair doesn’t happen by accident. It comes from consistent, intentional care.

Let me give you four simple tips I’ve lived by—what I call CozarTips 101.

First, when you shampoo your hair, always use your fingertips—never your fingernails. Your fingertips stimulate the scalp and promote healthy follicle activity. Fingernails can scratch and damage the scalp, and over time, that leads to irritation and breakage. Treat your scalp with care.

Second, pay attention to your water temperature. I always recommend cool to tepid water when shampooing and conditioning. Hot water can strip your products of essential vitamins and nutrients before your hair even has a chance to absorb them. It can also cause inflammation. Cooler water helps those nutrients adhere to your hair and scalp, and it supports better blood flow, which promotes growth.

Third, when you blow dry your hair, stick with warm heat—not hot. High heat will scorch your hair and cause your products to evaporate too quickly. That means you lose moisture, hydration and shine. Warm heat protects the integrity of your hair while still getting the job done.

Finally, never skip proper detangling during conditioning. While your hair is wet, use a detangling brush to work the conditioner through from root to ends. This ensures even distribution and gives you a smoother, more manageable finish when it’s time to style.

After

I’ve built my career on healthy hair, and I’m telling you—small changes in your routine can lead to big results.

I’m Tony Cozart, the Godfather of Hair, and this is how you take care of your crown.
