In this week’s COZARTIP 101, I break down a common source of confusion in hair care by explaining the difference between hydration and moisture and why both matter for healthy hair.
Hydration focuses on getting water into the hair. Water acts as a natural hydrator that helps keep hair soft, bouncy, and strong. When hair lacks hydration, it often becomes dry, frizzy, and brittle. In simple terms, hydration is about the hair absorbing water.
Moisture works differently. It helps seal in that hydration and supports moisture retention. This process locks water into the hair shaft so it does not escape. Without moisture, even hydrated hair can quickly dry out again.
So how can you achieve the right balance?
Start with a hydrating shampoo to bring water into the hair. Then follow up with a moisturizing conditioner to help seal it in. This simple routine creates a strong foundation for a healthy scalp and healthier hair overall.
Tony Cozart, known as the Godfather of Haircare, says understanding the difference between hydration and moisture is key to building an effective hair care routine that actually works.
