A Copiah-Lincoln Community College student is heading to Walt Disney World after earning a spot in a competitive national internship program.
Ashlyn Sprayberry of Harrisville, a sophomore in Co-Lin’s Culinary Arts Technology program, has been accepted into the Disney College Program in Orlando, Florida. She will graduate next week during commencement exercises on the Wesson campus before beginning the paid internship in June.
Sprayberry said the opportunity marks the start of a long-term goal to build a career with Disney.
“I’m excited to start this new journey in June,” she said. “I hope to stay with Disney for a few years and eventually work full-time in one of their restaurants.”
During her time at Co-Lin, Sprayberry balanced her culinary training with campus involvement, including performing as a clarinet player in the Blue Wave Show Band. She said those experiences helped prepare her for the next step.
“My time in the Culinary Arts program has been great,” she said. “I’ve made a lot of friends and had the chance to be involved in things I really enjoyed.”
Culinary Arts program director Abby Rials said Sprayberry is the fourth student from the program in recent years to be selected for the Disney College Program.
“Ashlyn is an excellent student, and I’ve truly enjoyed having her in the program,” Rials said. “I’m excited to see where this opportunity takes her.”
The Disney College Program offers students hands-on experience in hospitality, food service and operations at one of the country’s most recognized entertainment destinations.
