By Guest Writer Katina Rankin

Dr. John M. Perkins, civil rights leader, pastor, author, and champion of Christian reconciliation, has died at 96.
From the red clay roads of Mississippi to national and international platforms, Dr. Perkins spent more than sixty years calling the Church to live out a gospel of justice, forgiveness, and unity.
After enduring racial violence and wrongful imprisonment during the Civil Rights Movement, he chose forgiveness over hatred and reconciliation over division. His message was unwavering: we are one blood under God.
Through his writing, preaching, and the work of the John & Vera Mae Perkins Foundation, he helped shape a movement rooted in faith, justice, and beloved community.
Though his voice is now quiet, the work he began continues in churches, neighborhoods, and communities across the country.
He finished well.
Editor’s Note:
In lieu of flowers, the Perkins family invites those touched by his life and ministry to honor his legacy through gifts to the John & Vera Mae Perkins Foundation, continuing his lifelong work of training a new generation to seek justice, love mercy, and walk humbly with God.
