A quick hit of rain will usher in a noticeably colder midweek stretch across Simpson County before temperatures rebound toward the weekend. It is a classic early February pattern of a passing front, a brief chill, and then a warm up for communities from Mendenhall to Magee.
The week’s most active weather arrives Tuesday, when skies remain mostly cloudy and periods of rain develop during the afternoon. Daytime highs are expected to reach the lower 60s, with temperatures dropping into the upper 30s by Tuesday night. This setup could leave roads damp and cooler during the evening commute, especially along the U.S. 49 corridor and other frequently traveled county routes.
Colder air settles in quickly behind the rain. Wednesday looks chilly with low clouds early and limited sunshine, and temperatures may struggle to reach 50 degrees. More importantly, Wednesday night temperatures are forecast to fall into the mid 20s, creating a light freeze risk across the county.
Residents with exposed outdoor plumbing should consider protecting pipes, and anyone with tender plants, pets, or livestock should prepare for several hours below freezing late Wednesday night into early Thursday.
Thursday continues the cool and quiet trend, with sunshine returning and highs in the lower 50s. Overnight lows will remain near the freezing mark.
By Friday, a noticeable warm up begins under mostly sunny skies, pushing highs into the upper 60s. While welcome after the midweek chill, this kind of temperature swing can aggravate colds and seasonal allergies for some residents.
Saturday stays mostly sunny with highs in the low to mid 60s, keeping outdoor plans in good shape across Simpson County.
Looking ahead, the broader weather pattern suggests rain chances may return early next week. For Tuesday through Saturday, however, preparation is straightforward.
Keep an umbrella handy Tuesday afternoon, plan for a sharp midweek cool down, and take basic freeze precautions Wednesday night.
