JACKSON, Miss. — Walmart has pulled a popular store-brand frozen pasta from its shelves across Mississippi. State and federal agriculture officials found Listeria bacteria during routine product testing.
New York-based Gias Foods issued the voluntary recall for two specific lots of its bettergoods brand Authentic Italian Lemon Alfredo Fettuccine. The yellow 22-ounce plastic packages went out to Walmart stores nationwide, including locations throughout Mississippi. Local warnings, including alerts shared by the Sun Herald on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, are urging local residents to double-check their freezers.
Government inspectors with the Washington State Department of Agriculture and the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services flagged the issue after their testing networks detected the contamination in finished packages.
Federal health regulators note that no illnesses have been reported in connection with this pasta so far. However, health officials urge Mississippi consumers to look through their freezers immediately.
Customers who bought the fettuccine should check the back of the packaging for UPC number 194346442706, lot numbers L6079C or L6080C, and expiration dates of Sept. 19, 2027, or Sept. 20, 2027.
If you have the recalled product, do not eat it. You can return it to any local Mississippi Walmart for a full cash refund. Shoppers with questions can reach out directly to the manufacturer via email at sales@giasfoods.com.
Listeria monocytogenes can cause serious, sometimes fatal infections in young children, elderly individuals, or people with weakened immune systems. It can also cause severe complications for pregnant women. Standard symptoms of a Listeria infection include high fevers, severe headaches, neck stiffness, nausea, and stomach pain.
