PATTISON, Miss. — The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is investigating a shooting involving a Claiborne County sheriff’s deputy who fired his weapon while deputies were attempting to serve a felony warrant, according to a Friday news release.
Deputies went to a home to serve the warrant when, the MBI said, a man climbed through a window and attempted to take off.
Investigators said the man was armed and pointed a weapon toward deputies. One deputy then fired his weapon.
The man left the area. He later contacted the Claiborne County Sheriff’s Office and reported that he had been shot in the foot, according to MBI.
Authorities identified the man as 19-year-old Lorenzoe Dvontay January. MBI said January was wanted on a felony aggravated assault warrant.
As of Friday, January had not been located.
MBI agents are collecting evidence and reviewing the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Once the investigation is complete, the agency plans to submit its findings to the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office.
The information released by MBI is preliminary and could change as investigators gather additional evidence.
