Over 55 and Looking for Work? This Mississippi Program Could Open a New Door

By The People’s Paper MS Staff

Copiah Lincoln Community College is encouraging older adults who are ready to return to the workforce to explore a paid job training opportunity through the Senior Community Service Employment Program, or SCSEP.

The program, offered through CWI Works, is designed for adults age 55 and older who are unemployed and looking for meaningful employment opportunities while remaining active in their communities.

SCSEP provides participants with paid, hands on job training that helps them gain valuable work experience, build new skills, strengthen their confidence and prepare for long term employment. The program also gives participants an opportunity to stay engaged, serve their communities and develop workplace experience that can lead to future job opportunities.

To qualify, applicants must be at least 55 years old, unemployed and seeking employment.

College officials encourage eligible adults to learn more about the program and determine whether it is the right fit for their career goals. Leaders say experience matters and hopes the program will help participants take the next step toward employment.

According to program information, the Copiah Lincoln Community College SCSEP is funded by a $43.9 million grant from the U.S. Department of Labor. The federal grant provides 90 percent of the program’s support, while CWI Works Inc. and its subgrantees provide approximately $4.9 million in nonfederal matching funds.

The SCSEP Program is an equal opportunity program. Auxiliary aids and services are available upon request for individuals with disabilities.
