SIMPSON COUNTY, Miss. — A Simpson County man is expected to make his initial court appearance Monday following a weekend shooting that left his brother dead, according to the Simpson County Sheriff’s Office.
Alywin Darrell Durr is scheduled to appear in Simpson County Justice Court, where he is expected to face formal charges of first-degree murder and attempted murder.
Deputies said the shooting happened Saturday morning at approximately 10:36 a.m. at 109 Hattie Bell Tatum Road.
When deputies arrived, they found Mainard Winn dead from a gunshot wound, authorities said.
Investigators said Durr remained at the scene and was taken into custody without incident. The Sheriff’s Office said the two men were brothers who lived on the same property.
Durr is currently being held at the Simpson County Adult Detention Center ahead of his court appearance.
The investigation remains active as deputies continue interviewing witnesses and gathering evidence.
Chief Deputy Chris Wallace said the Sheriff’s Office is limited in what it can release while the case remains under investigation.
“We cannot comment further at this time because the investigation is still ongoing,” Wallace said. “If any new details emerge from this investigation, we will provide them as we can. We are simply being cautious to maintain the integrity of this investigation.”
The People’s Paper MS submitted additional questions to the Sheriff’s Office seeking more details about what led to the shooting. Wallace said investigators could not comment further while the investigation remains active.
