250 Reasons to Say Thank You: Magee Steps Up to Honor Veterans During America’s 250th Celebration

As America prepares to mark 250 years of resilience, freedom and independence, one local effort is making sure veterans remain front and center in the celebration.

For Magee Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Susan Walker, honoring those who served is not just important. It is personal.

“Remembering veterans during the 250th celebration of America is so important to me because these veterans are the cornerstone of our nation,” Walker said.

Now, the Chamber is turning those words into action.

As a way to give back, the Magee Chamber of Commerce has launched a community-wide effort to collect 250 items for veterans living at the Mississippi State Veterans Home in Collins.

The goal is simple but meaningful. Gather 250 much-needed items and deliver them directly to those who have given so much.

Community members can drop off donations at the Chamber office Monday through Friday. The drive will continue through the end of July, giving residents plenty of time to take part.

For those who prefer to give online, the Chamber has also created an Amazon wish list to make donating even easier.

Walker hopes the effort brings the community together in a shared moment of gratitude.

“They are the reason we are able to celebrate 250 years of resilience, freedom and independence,” Walker said.

As the nation reflects on its history, this local initiative serves as a reminder that the strength of America has always been rooted in the sacrifice and service of its people.

And in Magee, that gratitude is being shown one item at a time.
